Jockeys Jeremy Beasley and Carlos Gonzalez were taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Dallas for injuries suffered in two separate racing incidents Wednesday night at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. Jockey Kevin Cogburn escaped injury in a third incident.Gonzalez suffered a compound fracture in his right ankle and Beasley was being treated for signs of a concussion.A night of oddities produced three rider-less horses and another horse being declared a non-starter – all in separate races.Beasley's mount in the first race, 3-year-old maiden filly Halory's Habit, bolted to the outside rail shortly after the start of the six-furlong sprint. The 24-year-old jockey was dismounted, hit the ground hard and was briefly knocked unconscious. Once he regained consciousness, Beasley couldn't recall the incident and complained of soreness in his head and back, although there was no evidence of any fractures.Three races later, Gonzalez had Sugar Creek Girl on the lead in deep stretch of the fourth race, a maiden special weight at one mile on turf. When Gonzalez went to a right-handed whip, the 3-year-old filly darted through the temporary inside rail, tossing the 39-year-old journeyman. He was immediately fitted with a temporary cast for a broken right ankle. The condition of both jockeys was unavailable at press time.Later, Beasley's replacement in the fifth race, Cogburn, fell to the ground after 7-year-old gelding Sir Siebert stumbled at the start of the one-mile claiming race. Cogburn immediately got up and walked back to the jockey's room. Each of the three horses that tossed their jockeys appeared uninjured and were bedded down back their barns.
In the third race of the night, U Gotta Luv Dee was declared a non-starter by Texas Racing Commission stewards when video replays showed that the 2-year-old filly was not completely in the starting gate when doors opened for the start of the five-furlong maiden claiming event. All wagering on that entrant was refunded.
