(Edited Belmont Park notes)
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said it is highly unlikely that Shadwell Stable's Mustanfar will compete in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I).
The son of Unbridled missed winning the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III) by a neck to Limehouse, who returned to run fourth in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I).
Mustanfar's last start was not among his best. Sent off the 7-5 favorite in a second-level allowance at Belmont May 14, the colt was beaten five lengths and finished third.
"Doubtful is the best description," McLaughlin said. "We have a lot of respect for Smarty Jones and Rock Hard Ten. The Belmont looks like it will be a very tough race. Mustanfar might want a mile and a half, but he might want it against lesser. We have some turf options with him and he's still eligible for a two-other-than allowance."
Several Belmont Stakes starters are expected to come out of Saturday's grade II Peter Pan. Those slated to run in the $200,000 heat at nine furlongs are Consecrate, Friends Lake, Intimidator, Master David, Purge, Sinister G, Swingforthefences, Tiger Hunt, Wild Wadi and Zakocity. Pies Prospect is listed as a possibility.
