Edited from a releaseTVG will present live coverage of the $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) from New York's Belmont Park on Saturday. The Peter Pan is the final major prep race for the $1 million Belmont Stakes (gr. I) on June 5, the third jewel in the Visa Triple Crown. Post time for the Peter Pan (which has produced five Belmont winners since 1979), is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. EDT. The telecast will be presented by Claiborne Farm. A field of 10 is expected for the nine-furlong race, which could produce several challengers for Smarty Jones in the Belmont. Most prominent among this group are Florida Derby (gr. I) winner Friends Lake and the Bobby Frankel-trained Master David, the runner-up in the Wood Memorial (gr. I). Both ran in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), the former finishing 15th, the latter 12th, with neither handling Churchill Downs' sloppy surface that day. Also slated for Saturday's race are the Bob Baffert-trained Consecrate, the Nick Zito-trained Pies Prospect, Swingforthefences, Purge, Sinister G, Tiger Hunt, Wild Wadi and Zackocity.
