Intrinsic Worth Captures Arlington Opener

(from Arlington report)Pin Oak Stable's Intrinsic Worth overcame a bad start to come from last at the top of the stretch to win the $38,000 Shecky Greene Handicap by three-quarters of a length on opening day at Arlington Park Friday.
Carlos Marquez Jr. was aboard the
Red Ransom colt who covered the six-furlong event for 3-year-olds in a speedy 1:09.96 over a track rated muddy. Sent off as the 5-2 second choice in the field of six, Intrinsic Worth paid $7, $3.60 and $2.80.
The Shecky Greene was the third straight victory and the fourth in nine starts for the Mike Stidham-trained sophomore, who banked $22,800 to boost his earnings into six figures at $110,772.
Jimmy Cracked Corn was second and paid $3.80 and $2.60. Marley's Revenge ran third and returned $3.
Danieltown, the 2-1 favorite, set very quick fractions, getting the quarter in 21.56 seconds and the half mile in 43.81 seconds before fading to fourth.
