Smarty Jones, the Kentucky Derby winner is now the prohibitive 2-5 favorite to win Saturday's 129th running of the $1 million Preakness Stakes (gr. I).
Fans at Pimlico and around the nation bet $116,937 in early wagering on the Preakness and established Smarty Jones as the clear choice.
The field for the Preakness was reduced to 10 with the Friday scratch of The Cliff's Edge due to a foot injury. His absence has left only Imperialism (6-1), Lion Heart (8-1) and Rock Hard Ten (8-1) as lukewarm options to upend the favorite.
Completing the early wagering are Eddington (20-1), Borrego (25-1), Water Cannon (25-1), Sir Shackleton (50-1), Song Of The Sword (55-1) and Little Matth Man (60-1).
