Imperialism, third in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), joined the list of probable starters in Saturday's Preakness Stakes (gr. I), which is expected to feature four of the top five finishers from the May 1 Derby.
Little Matth Man is also confirmed for the middle jewel of the Visa Triple Crown, bringing the field to nine.
"I'm 90% convinced we are coming," said Imperialism's owner Steve Taub Saturday. "The horse is perfect."
Trainer Nick Zito said a decision on the status of Sir Shackelton will be made after a breeze at Churchill Downs Sunday morning.
Two contenders had their final works for the Preakness, as Eddington and Water Cannon each had bullet five-furlong works at Belmont Park and Bowie Training Center, respectively.
Eddington was clocked at 1:00 flat, while Water Cannon went 1:00 4/5. Both trainers were pleased with the performances and all systems are go for Maryland's marquee race.
"He is doing exceptionally well," said Ryan Fogelsonger, who will ride Water Cannon next weekend. "Since Linda (trainer Albert) added blinkers, he's won five in a row and is on top of his game. It will definitely be his toughest race ever, but the one thing we have going for us is that he has won over the track, taking the Tesio last month. He's a horse who will just wear down horses as much he can. He has the heart and ability and deserves a spot in this race."
