The Kentucky Equine Education Alliance on May 5 will officially launch a grassroots effort to educate the public on the importance of the $4-billion horse industry to the state's economy.
The alliance has been in the works for months, if not longer. A press conference will be held at 11 a.m. EDT in the atrium at the International Museum of the Horse at the Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington.
Former Kentucky Gov. Brereton Jones will chair the new organization. John Gaines, founder of the Breeders' Cup, will serve as honorary chairman. All breeds of horses will be represented in the organization.
Republican Sen. Damon Thayer and Democratic Rep. Susan Westrom, co-chairs of the Subcommittee on Horse Farming of the Interim Joint Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, will participate in the press conference.
