Go for Gin Moving After Current Breeding Season

Go for Gin, the 1994 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner, will be moving from Claiborne Stud in Kentucky after he finishes out the current breeding season.

Joe Cornacchia said Saturday morning at Churchill Downs that he recently had bought out the interests of Bill Condren and Claiborne in the son of Cormorant. Cornacchia didn't know where the 13-year-old stallion would stand next year, but the owner would prefer Maryland, New York, or Louisiana.

Cornacchia said he exercised his right first refusal, matching an offer received from a foreign buyer for Go for Gin.

"I didn't want him to go overseas," Cornacchia said.

Cornacchia and Condren raced Go for Gin in partnership. The stallion has sired six stakes winners, including Albert the Great, winner of the 2000 Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) and an earner of more than $3 million. Go for Gin's stud fee this year is $7,500.

Prior to the buyout, Cornacchia said he and Condren each owned a 40% interest in Go for Gin and Claiborne had a 20% share.
