(from Bay Meadows notes)
Jockeys David Lopez and Alfredo Miranda, who were injured when their horses fell in Thursday's seventh race, were in stable condition Friday and improving, Bay Meadows track physician Dr. David Seftel reported.

Lopez sustained a severe concussion and is expected to remain at Stanford Hospital for two to three days for observation. Lopez is likely to be sidelined for one to two weeks.

Miranda suffered four fractures of the transverse processes of his upper throracic and lumbar spine and also broke two ribs. All of the fractures were stable and Miranda was hoping to be released from Stanford Friday afternoon. Miranda is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks.
