(from Hollywood Park report)Speedy Falcon and Aspen Gal, a pair of 3-year-old fillies who have dominated stakes opposition in the Midwest and Southwest, seek graded stakes stature on Sunday in Hollywood Park's $100,000 Railbird Stakes (gr. III) at seven furlongs.
Speedy Falcon, a Florida-bred trained by Henry Dominguez for G. Chris Coleman, is coming off a dazzling six-length triumph in the one-mile, $250,000 Sunland Oaks at Sunland Park in New Mexico.
A winner of six of seven starts for earnings of $245,000, Speedy Falcon will carry high weight of 123 pounds in her California debut. Jockey Victor Espinoza will join her when facing nine other 3-year-old fillies in the Railbird's 42nd running.
Aspen Gal is an Oklahoma-bred who easily won three stakes in the Midwest last year before being acquired by Edmund Gann and turned over to Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel. She will carry 118 pounds.
Aspen Gal was a fast-closing second in Santa Anita's La Habra Stakes on Feb. 29 in her only start for Frankel. She overcame considerable trouble to miss by a neck. Alex Solis will be back aboard. She has earned $98,111 from four wins in six starts.
Elusive Diva returns to Southern California from Oaklawn Park, where she ran fourth in the $200,000 Fantasy Stakes (gr. II) for trainer Mark Glatt. She has won two of her four starts, adds blinkers, and will be ridden for the first time by Patrick Valenzuela. First post on Sunday is at 1:20 p.m.
