Phil Heard, who joined Hastings Park as general manager in April of 2000, resigned on Tuesday. Heard was instrumental in Hastings' purchase by Woodbine Entertainment Group in 2002. Recently he had been heading up the track's efforts at getting slots at the racetrack and opening up teletheaters in the greater Vancouver area. Earlier this month WEG sold Hastings in a deal totaling $20.1 million to Great Canadian Gaming Corporation and Wall Financial Group.

Heard does not have immediate plans, but indicated he might try to stay within the sports/business arena. He previously worked with the Molson/Indy Car tour.

Peter Wall of Wall Financial did not return calls and Great Canadian officials could not yet comment on any plans for filling Heard's position or future plans regarding the track's management.
