Who Has the Edge in the Edgewood?

Not every 3-year-old filly racing on April 30 will be running for the lilies. Twelve sophomore fillies are entered for the $100,000 Edgewood Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs, which will be contested over 8 1/2 furlongs on the turf.
Timothy Hills trains Vous, who won last year's Hollywood Wildcat Stakes at Calder Race Course. In her last start she fell just short of a win in the March 21 Via Borghese Stakes at Gulfstream Park. Prior to that race, Vous finished second to another Edgewood contender, Last Waltz, in a nine-furlong turf allowance in February at Gulfstream Park. Vous races for Tee-N-Jay Farm, while Last Waltz is a homebred racing for Ken and Sarah Ramsey.
Two other Edgewood runners, Pink Champagne, who is trained by John Kimmel, and Galloping Gal, also competed in the Via Borghese, finishing seventh and sixth, respectively. Galloping Gal finished sixth in her most recent start, the April 14 Appalachian Stakes, which was won by Lucifer's Stone.
Tee's Pearl will be making her first start on turf in the Edgewood. The daughter of Lil E. Tee was bred in Indiana by her owner, Tony Schuler, and is trained by Lynn Whiting. She has won her last two starts, including the April 10 Instant Racing Breeders' Cup Stakes at Oaklawn Park, which was run over a sloppy track. Tee's Pearl broke her maiden at Churchill Downs last year before heading to Ellis Park, Turfway Park, and Hoosier Park.
Gimme Some Love will be making her second start on the grass in the Edgewood. If her first try at the turf was any indication, look for her on Friday. The daughter of Miesque's Son won a Keeneland turf allowance on April 2 by 2 1/2 lengths. That race was also 8 1/2 furlongs.
The complete field, from the rail out, for the April 30 Edgewood Stakes, the fifth race on the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) undercard.
