Wally Dunn, Trained Colorado King, Dies at 93

Retired trainer Wally Dunn, who sent out Colorado King to three major stakes victories at Hollywood Park in 1964, died earlier this week in his Arcadia apartment. He was 93.

Dunn, a member of the Canadian Hall of Fame, began training in California in 1939. In 1964, he swept the American Handicap, Hollywood Gold Cup and Sunset Handicap with South African champion Colorado King.

Colorado King equaled a world record of 1:46 2/5 for 1 1/8 miles in the American.

Dunn earlier won the Hollywood Gold Cup in 1954 with Correspondent.
