Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) winner Castledale worked six furlongs in 1:12 Saturday morning at Santa Anita, trainer Jeff Mullins sounding as though he was leaning toward a run in the Kentucky Derby.

Mullins said he was happy with the effort, but will wait until Sunday before committing the Irish-bred colt to the May 1 Derby (gr. I).

Part owner Frank Lyons, A TVG racing analysist, told his television audience that Castledale is expected to arrive in Louisville Monday afternoon.

Jose Valdivia Jr. was aboard for the work, which was accomplished in company with stablemate The Eden.

"I'd hate to say we're going and then have to change my mind tomorrow," Mullins said. He said he wanted to see how Castledale comes out of the drill.

"Jose was beside himself," Mullins said.

Greg Knee and Lyons own Castledale, a son of Peintre Celebre -- Louju, by Silver Hawk, who has banked more than $500,000 in graded stakes earnings while winning three of 10 career starts.
