Snorter and Pie N Burger will headline a talented field in Saturday's $300,000 Texas Mile Stakes (gr. III) at Lone Star Park. Snorter is a perfect two-for-two on the year and Pie N Burger is undefeated in three career starts at the Texas track.
Snorter, who is owned by Gary and Mary West, enters the Texas Mile off a length win in the March 27 Berkeley Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) at Golden Gate Fields. He began the year with a length win in a mile allowance race at Santa Anita.
Jockey David Flores gets the mount aboard the 2/1 Snorter.
Pie n Burger, who earned Horse of the Meeting honors at Lone Star last year and is trained by Cole Norman, is listed at 7/2 on the morning line. Jamie Theroit gets the mount.
Pie N Burger, who is campaigned by Kagele Brothers, began the year with a second-place finish in the Feb. 21 Essex Handicap and was third in the March 14 Razorback Handicap, both grade III at Oaklawn Park.
Giving challenge to both Snorter and Pie N Burger could be South Florida invader Supah Blitz and local runner Mountain General.
Supah Blitz has finished second in three consecutive races, including the March 13 Skip Away Handicap (gr. IIII). Mountain General enters off a second-place finish in the March 14 Pelleteri Breeders' Cup Handicap at Fair Grounds.
