Fusaichi Pegasus
Fusaichi Pegasus, the 2000 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner, reached sire status when his son In Excelsis won a maiden race April 22 in heavy going at Tipperary in Ireland. The colt, produced from grade I winner Lakeway (by Seattle Slew), beat four rivals in 1:07.30 for the five furlongs, winning by 1 1/2 lengths while getting several reminders from jockey J.P. Spencer. He is trained by Aidan O'Brien.
Bred in Kentucky by Mike G. Rutherford Sr., In Excelsis is a half-brother to stakes winner Sluice (by
Seeking the Gold) and was bought from Eaton Sales, agent, by Coolmore Stud associate Demi O'Byrne for $950,000 at the 2003 Keeneland September yearling sale.
Fusaichi Pegasus is the sole son of the great Mr. Prospector to win the Run for the Roses. Syndicated Fusaichi Pegasus, who is out of the
Danzig mare Angel Fever, stands for $85,000 at Coolmore's North American satellite, Ashford Stud, near Versailles, Ky.
