Xtra Heat
Champion and millionaire Xtra Heat foaled a Gone West chestnut colt shortly before midnight April 16 at ClassicStar near Versailles, Ky. It was the first foal for the 6-year-old daughter of Dixieland Heat out of the Hatchet Man mare Begin.
Xtra Heat, who won 26 of 35 races and earned $2.3 million, was bought privately by the ClassicStar partnership of S. David Plummer, Tony Ferguson, Thom Robinson, and John Parrott for $1.5 million in November of 2002 from Maryland-based owners Kenneth Taylor, Harry Deitchman, and trainer John Salzman Sr. Xtra Heat had gone unsold at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November sale when bidding stalled at $1.7 million.
Xtra Heat will be bred to Storm Cat.
