Borrego, on track at Churchill Downs in Monday workout.
Borrego, the Arkansas Derby (gr. II) and Louisiana Derby (gr. II) runner-up, took to the track Monday at Churchill Downs for his first serious exercise at the Louisville, Ky. track as he worked three furlongs in :37 4/5 under exercise rider Andy Durnin.
Trainer Beau Greely said the time was exactly what he wanted from the son of
El Prado. "He worked very nicely," Greely said. "Generally, I put blinkers on him but this morning I wanted him to see the track, to see the surroundings. He had his ears pinned and really didn't get out of a gallop. We wanted to go in 37 or 38 (seconds) so it worked out perfectly."
Greely said Borrego will work an "easy five-eighths" of a mile Sunday. "He's fit. Right now, it's just a matter of keeping him happy and sound."
With two wins and three runner-up finishes from seven starts, Borrego has earned $399,580.
