Gallyn Mitchell became the first jockey to win 700 career races at Emerald Downs on Sunday when he guided Best Game In Town to a victory in the first race.
Mitchell, a two-time leading rider at Emerald, is also the track's all-time leader in stakes wins and earnings.
"It's a great feeling. It doesn't seem like 700. It's unbelievable," said Mitchell, who notched his biggest career victory at Emerald Downs aboard Edneator in the 2000 Longacres Mile (gr. III). "It just feels so great to be part of this jockey colony and be here at Emerald Downs."
The 41-year-old Mitchell has been a member of the Emerald Downs' jockey colony since the track opened in 1996. He won riding titles in 1999 and 2000.
In addition to being a jockey, Mitchell also works as a stunt rider, appearing in motion pictures "Seabiscuit," "Little Big Man," and Tim Burton's 2001 remake of "Planet of the Apes."
