Read the Footnotes Breezes Mile in 1:40 at Palm Meadows

Read the Footnotes, winner of the Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II), turned in his second straight solid mile work, breezing his eight furlongs in 1:40 at Palm Meadows training center.

Trainer Rick Violette said the son of Smoke Glacken   went in :26, :51 and change, and six furlongs in 1:16 2/5 before coming his his final quarter in :23 3/5.

"This time we just let him sprint home, and he did it beautifully," Violette said. "Now, we'll just sharpen him up a little bit. He needed a couple of very long-winded works where he finished and that's just what he got. I'm very happy where we're at, and that includes the seven-week layoff."

Violette said Read the Footnotes will ship to Churchill Downs on April 23. No decision has been made who will ride the colt.
