Lane's End Stakes winner Sinister G headed to the Derby
Lane's End (gr. II) winner Sinister G, who tired badly to finish 10th in the Wood Memorial (gr. I), has recovered from a bronchial infection and will now head back on the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) trail, trainer John Toscano said Thursday.
"He started coughing over the weekend, and we found a little redness and an infection," Toscano said. "We put him on antiobiotics, and he's back doing great again. He's been bouncing around the shed, and after talking it over, we all decided to take a shot. So, we're back in the hunt.
"The horse was running well early in the Wood, and then he suddenly chucked it. We know he's a better horse than that."
Toscano's sons, John III and Robert, own half-interest in Sinister G, in partnership with Kim Corrado and Yamile Carlat. Another son, Paul, rides the son of
Matty G"People get obsessed with the Derby," Toscano said. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I told everyone, 'If you want to go, I'll go.' We talked it over, and it was a mutual decision, so I guess we're on our way."
Toscano said he'll train Sinister G in New York and ship to Lousiville Derby Week.
