Millionaire Happyanunoit, who finished third in the Nov. 26 Matriarch Stakes (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park in her last start, will stay in training for the 2001 season. There had been speculation that the 5-year-old New Zealand-bred mare would be retired and bred to Gone West, but it was decided that she could be as potent a force on the racetrack in 2001 as she was her three previous racing years. Owned by John Amerman and his wife, Jerry, Happyanunoit is with trainer Bobby Frankel in Southern California.
Happyanunoit, who won the 1999 Matriarch, also was a grade I turf winner this year, capturing the Beverly Hills Handicap at Hollywood in July. A champion in New Zealand, Happyanunoit (Yachtie -- Easter Queen, by Rajah) has won eight of 19 career starts and earned $1,426,408.
