An ideal distance and running style should make Ticker Tape a solid contender in Sunday's $100,000 Providencia Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at one mile on turf.
The Great Britain-bred daughter of Royal Applause trained by Jim Cassidy registered a mild surprise at 5-1 over the 8-5 favorite, Mambo Slew, in winning the restricted China Doll Stakes at one mile on turf on March 18. Prior to that, Ticker Tape was second twice to Mambo Slew, in the Miesque and Blue Norther, respectively, both races also at one mile on turf. The meet for the fourth time in the Providencia.
"Cassidy's on a roll, he's got a hot hand and she fits well with these horses," said Kent Desormeaux, who rides Ticker Tape for the third consecutive race in the Providencia.
Ticker Tape has a 3-4-1 record from 10 starts, with earnings of $169,091. She drew post position nine in a field of 12 for the Providencia, which goes as Sunday's eighth race.$100,000 Providencia Stakes, 3-year-old filles, 1 mile
