Academic Angel Gets Easy 'A' in Henson 'Cap

Cash Asmussen's Academic Angel, the overwhelming 3-5 favorite, rolled to an easy 2 1/4-length win in the $105,400 Harry Henson Handicap for fillies and mares at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Ken Tohill for trainer Steve Asmussen, overcame a wide trip to wear down pacesetting Sexy Boots on the turn for home and opened up by at least four lengths in the stretch. She finished the one-mile feature under a mild drive in a time of 1:36 4/5.

The 5-year-old Kentucky-bred bay mare by Royal Academy paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.60.

Sideways rallied from last in the nine-horse field to be second, 2 /14 lengths ahead of Blue Guru. Sideways returned $4.80 and $4.60, while Blue Guru showed for $3.40.

Academic Angel improved her career line to 8-4-2 in 20 starts, earning $63,240 for the victory. She improved her lifetime earnings to $302,885.
