Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Kona Gold breezed five furlongs in 1:05 Sunday at Santa Anita. The 6-year-old gelding is being prepared for a start in the $200,000 Palos Verdes Handicap (gr. II) on Jan. 28 at Santa Anita.

Hawksley Hill continued preparations for his return to the races, working six furlongs in 1:15 on the grass at Hollywood Park. The 7-year-old gelded son of Rahy is unraced since finishing fourth -- beaten by less than a length -- in the Citation Handicap (gr. IIT) in November of 1999 at Hollywood Park. The five-time stakes winner has won 13 of 42 career starts and earned over $1.5 million.

Full Moon Madness, scratched from Sunday's Vernon O. Underwood Stakes (gr. III) by his trainer, worked four furlongs on turf Sunday at Hollywood Park, getting the distance in :50 3/5. "When I heard that Love That Red and Old Topper had gotten hurt, I thought I should take a look (at the Underwood)," said trainer Bob Marshall, explaining the scratch. "But when I drew the rail, I decided to scratch."

Manndar, preparing for the San Gabriel Handicap (gr. IIT) on New Year's Day at Santa Anita, worked four furlongs on turf at that track in a bullet :48 4/5.
