Five-year-old mare Desirable Moment broke the course record for five furlongs Sunday at Gulfstream Park when her half-length victory over Sunshine Dreamer stopped the timer in :55.61.
The performance lowered the previous mark set by Elvi Gamble March 14, 2001 by more than a fifth of a second and came despite temporary rails moving the course's running lanes 20 feet wider than normal. The internal split times were equally blazing with the first quarter in :21 and the half-mile in :43 2/5.
Jose Ferrer was the winning jockey at 120 pounds. The Peteski mare is owned by Daniel McGlothin and trained by Tim Hills. Desirable Moment paid $4.80 as the favorite in the $50,000 claiming race.
