Eurosilver, will miss the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes.
Edited from Keeneland reportsTrainer Nick Zito said Buckram Oak Farm's Eurosilver, one of the leading candidates for the Triple Crown events, is being treated for an infection and will miss the April 10 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland.
"This is a day-to-day thing," Zito said. "The Blue Grass is out of the question. You can't go into a grade 1 race without having your horse at his best. He spiked a temperature and we had to treat him."
Zito had been pointing the son of
Unbridled's Song to the Toyota Blue Grass since last fall, when he won the Lane's End Breeders' Futurity (gr. II) at Keeneland. Eurosilver won his first start at three, then finished second in the March 13 Swale Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park.
Eurosilver arrived from Florida with a large contingent of Zito runners, including Kentucky Derby (gr. I) hopefuls Birdstone (by
Grindstone) and The Cliff's Edge (by
Gulch). Zito wouldn't speculate as to when Eurosilver would race again.
Meanwhile, Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor's Pomeroy, who finished second in the March 20 Gotham Stakes (gr. II) at Aqueduct, is being pointed to the April 17 Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) by trainer Patrick Biancone.
Biancone, who already has horses stabled on the grounds, plans to ship Pomeroy to Lexington in early April. The son of
Boundary finished first in the Kentucky Cup Juvenile (gr. III) at Turfway Park last fall but was disqualified for interference in the stretch and placed third.
Trainer Ed Frederick said Oak Haven Farm's Tricky Taboo, second in the March 20 Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) at Turfway, would use the Coolmore Lexington as his final steppingstone to the May 1 Kentucky Derby. The son of
Mazel Trick has two victories in five starts.
