Berkeley Next for Jets Fan, Gold Ruckus

(from Golden Gate Fields' report)
Jets Fan and Gold Ruckus, who finished one-two in the San Carlos Handicap, are among the six horses entered in Saturday's $100,000 Berkeley Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) at Golden Gate Fields.

Jets Fan and Gold Ruckus will both carry 116 pounds in the Berkeley, a one-mile contest for 3-year-olds and up. When Jets Fan defeated Gold Ruckus by 1 1/2 lengths in the one-mile San Carlos on Feb. 28, he enjoyed a two-pound weight break, carrying 116 pounds while Gold Ruckus hauled 118.

Also assigned 116 pounds for the Berkeley is Taste of Paradise, who scored a 37-1 shocker in the San Diego Handicap (gr. II) at Del Mar last summer.

Completing the Berkeley field are Snorter, a lightly-raced 4-year-old colt from the powerful Bobby Frankel barn; Yougottawanna, who is coming off an eight-length victory in a $50,000 allowance/optional claiming race in which he was claimed by trainer John F. Martin; and Wolfwithintegrity, who is coming back in eight days after running fourth in an $80,000 claiming race at Santa Anita on March 19.

Jets Fan has won his last two races and is 5-for-12 overall with four seconds. Brent Sumja, a huge fan of the National Football LeagueJets, trains the gelding. "I've been dying with them for 34 years," said Sumja.

Gold Ruckus, victorious in 10 of his 30 career races, hails from the barn of leading trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. Gold Ruckus captured the Lafayette Handicap at Golden Gate Fields on New Year's Day and was third in the Tanforan Handicap prior to running second in the San Carlos.
