Our New Recruit, working in Dubai toward Golden Shaheen.
While Cajun Beat has dominated the build up to Saturday's $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen at Nad Al Sheba (UAE-I), California trainer John Sadler issued a confident bulletin about his challenger Our New Recruit.
Alex Solis' mount worked well last Sunday, leading Sadler to predict: "I think this horse is an up-and-comer and he has been doing very well since he has been here. He has been second and third in the last two graded sprints in southern California and we think we have the toughest and the best sprinters in southern California, so I believe my horse to be right up there with the best."
Sadler added: "One of the reasons we brought him here is that I think he can go either way. A lot of horses are one dimensional in that they have to go to the front or come late. My horse isn't like that."
The tough task facing Our New Recruit is highlighted by his odds for the race of 16-1. British bookmakers William Hill made Cajun Beat the 6-4 favourite with the Todd Pletcher-trained Alke at 9-2. Both those horses having been pleasing connections in their work in Dubai
William Hill is taking bets on six of the races on Saturday's Nad Al Sheba card and has also opened a book on how many American-trained winners there will be: 5-1, no winners; 2-1, one winner; 11-8 two winners; 4-1, three winners; 20-1, four winners; and 150-1, five winners.
