Live Wire Lil, ridden by Richard Migliore, defeated odds-on favorite Her She Kisses by 1 3/4 lengths to take the $81,525 Garland of Roses Stakes on Saturday at Aqueduct. Her She Kisses beat Valarone by a length in the six-furlong race. West's Secret, Southern Sandra, Southern Reveille, and Winged Delite completed the order of finish.
Live Wire Lil (Geiger Counter--Dance Somar, by Dance Bid) carried 114 pounds over six furlongs in 1:11.15 on the fast track to earn $48,915 with her fifth win in 11 starts this year. Live Wire Lil is a 3-year-old filly owned and trained by Steven Klesaris. She was bred in Kentucky by Green River Farms Inc.
The winner returned $9.20, $3.10 and $2.10. Her She Kisses paid 2.50 and $2.10. and Valarone was $2.30 to show.
Also at Aqueduct Saturday, Paraneck Stable's Griffinite dropped down into allowance company from the stakes ranks and won a six furlong race by a half-length as the 12-5 favorite. Griffinite stopped the timer in 1:11.75. The Richard Suttle-trained 2-year-old son of Unbridled's Song finished sixth in the Champagne (gr. I), third in the Nashua (gr. III), and fifth in the Remsen (gr. II) after breaking his maiden at Belmont Park in September.
