Officials of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and Thoroughbred Charities of America announced Monday that the two organizations have agreed to a strategic alliance aimed at expanding TCA's charitable programs on behalf of the industry.

Founded in 1990, TCA, has awarded in excess of $8.5 million in grant commitments to over 100 equine-related charities. The Thoroughbred Charities Auction & Gala in December 2003 raised a record $1.5 million. Financial grants will be awarded this spring to approximately 75 equine-related organizations that support equine rescue, retirement, medical research, therapeutic riding programs, scholarship and recovery programs.

"We are excited about an expanded affiliation with TOBA," said TCA president and founder Herb Moelis. "We believe that the resources and outreach of our national owners and breeders organization will help TCA increase its awareness level and carry out its mission to the many organizations that count on our support."

"TCA has set a goal of raising the public profile of racing-related charities, as well as raising the necessary funds to assist the many benevolent organizations in our sport," said TOBA president Dan Metzger. "We are excited about the opportunity to share in the vision of elevating these programs to another level."

TOBA and TCA are collaborating on Thoroughbred Charities' first annual charity golf tournament on Aug. 17. The event is being held at the Saratoga National Golf Course, which in 2001 was named as "One of the Best New Courses in the U.S." Player registration is $500 per player ($2000 for a foursome) for golf and dinner with an open bar. A live auction, and raffle will follow the tournament. For more information call Terry Conway at (302)427-0905 or visit www.thoroughbredcharities.org
