The $500,000 WinStar Derby and $250,000 WinStar Sunland Park Oaks on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28, will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Both races run at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino in New Mexicco will be televised live by Fox Sports West, Fox Sports New York, Fox Sports South and TVG. Two one-hour programs will be devoted to the feature races. The Oaks program can be viewed on March 27 from 3-4 p.m. (Mountain Daylight Time). The WinStar Derby show is slated on March 28 from 3-4 p.m. (Mountain Daylight Time)...Mary Mazur's homebred Goldinrunner was honored as 2003 Michigan-bred Thoroughbred horse of the year during the Michigan Horse Council's International Stallion Expo at the Michigan State University Agriculture Pavilion in East Lansing on Saturday. A 4-year-old gelded son of P Fifty One, Goldinrunner was trained by Gerald Bennett to win four of 13 starts, with nine placings and earnings of $152,008 last year...The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association's next "New and Prospective Owners Seminar" is scheduled for Friday at Turfway Park. Topics will include the business of Thoroughbred ownership, an owners perspective, a partnership panel, trainer and veterinarian panel, and more. Featured speakers include Leigh McKee of Dean Dorton & Ford, Joe Brown Nicholson of Nicholson Insurance, Joel Turner of Frost Brown Todd, trainer Paul McGee, racing official Rick Leigh, Larry Richardson of Stony Oak Farm, and Jack Smith of Jack Smith Thoroughbreds. In addition, presentations will be made by Equineline.com (Tony Ottaiano), The Greatest Game, Inc. (Gay Fisher). Registration for the seminar, which costs $50 for TOBA members and $75 for nnon-TOBA members, will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the racing club (fifth floor) at Turfway Park and include lunch, panel presentations and an evening of racing.
