(from Santa Anita notes)
Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) winner Southern Image could make his next start in the $750,000 Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) at Belmont Park on May 31.

Trainer Mike Machowsky said he sees little difficulty in going from the 1 ΒΌ-mile Big 'Cap distance to a flat mile.

"It shouldn't be a big deal for him," Machowsky said. "He does everything so well."

Asked if he would find a race before the Met Mile, Machowsky said, "As of right now I'm on the fence. I don't think so, although there could be a possibility of doing something. We'll let him tell us. He came out of the Big 'Cap real good so we'll just enjoy it for a while.

"He's going to need a little break somewhere so I figured right now might be the best time. We'll give him a couple races through the spring and summer and hopefully get to the Breeders' Cup (Classic at Lone Star Park on Oct. 30)."
