'Field' Opens as Favorite in Second Derby Future Wager

Fountain of Youth (gr. I) winner Read The Footnotes and Lane's End Breeders' Futurity (gr. II) winner Eurosilver are favored among the individual horses, but the wagering interest that includes "all other 3-year-olds" has been installed as the 3-1 morning line favorite for Pool Two of Churchill Downs' 2004 Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

Pool Two is scheduled to begin its four-day run at noon Eastern on Thursday and will remain open until Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

This year's first Derby Futures pool concluded with total wagering of $536,958, the second highest total in the 16 pools conducted since the bet was introduced in 1999. The record single-pool total of $577,889 was wagered during Pool 1 in 2002.

KDFW Pool 2 contains eight individual horses that were not among the wagering interests in the season's opening pool. The new horses include Louisiana Derby (gr. II) winner Wimbledon, San Rafael Stakes (gr. II) winner Imperialism, Hutcheson Stakes (gr. III) winner Limehouse, Best Turn winner Redskin Warrior, and impressive recent allowance winners Rock Hard Ten, Swingforthefences, Value Plus, and Eddington.
