Veteran Horseman Andy Engel Dead

Longtime horseman Andy Engel died March 8 in Silver Creek, Neb., following a lengthy illness. He was 79.
Engel competed at racetracks throughout the Midwest for the better part of six decades and drew his training career to a close at the time of the closing of Ak-Sar-Ben in the early 1990s. His survivors include his wife, Donna, and sons Rick, Roger, Rob, and Randy. The first two are trainers based in Oklahoma. Rob is a former blacksmith.
