TCA Auction Tops $1 Million

A two-location auction of over 200 stallion seasons has raised more than $1 million for the Thoroughbred Charities of America (The exact dollar figure will be released when all tallies are complete). The event, based in Middletown, Del., but with a satellite event held simultaneously in Lexington, drew an attendance of 600 between the two venues.

Topping the auction was a $52,000 season to Dixieland Band, donated by Bayard Sharp and purchased by Elizabeth Moran of Brushwood Farm. Ernie Paragallo donated a season to Unbridled's Song, which at $45,000 was the second-highest season.

In addition to the season auction and a silent auction, TCA honored National Thoroughbred Racing Association CEO Tim Smith with the Allaire duPont Humanitarian Award. Ellen and Herb Moelis, who hosted the event in Delaware, were recognized with a special Award of Merit from Racing Commissioners International.

"Our purpose is simple-to support volunteer organizations which help and rescue horses and people in the horse industry," said Herb Moelis in a release. "This event shows, above all else, that our game has a heart, and our sincere thanks go to all concerned."
