William Inglis & Son announced the inaugural $1 million Inglis Championship will be run at Flemington racecourse on Saturday Feb. 5, 2005. This race is restricted to horses sold at the 2004 Classic and Premier Yearling Sales with a field of 16 runners and 4 emergencies run over 1200m.

To ensure eligibility in this restricted Inglis graduate race, the sum of $1,650 (inc. GST) must be lodged with William Inglis & Son Ltd before 5 p.m. on March 19, 2004. Horses must be nominated with the Racing Services Bureau in accordance with the Victoria Racing Club conditions for the race meeting on Feb. 5. A final acceptance fee of $5,500 (inc. GST) will be due on the Thursday prior to the race day.

Inglis also announced the Premier Yearling Sale dates for 2005 are Feb. 13, 14, & 16.

"The sale will commence on Feb. 13 and conclude with the Premier II session on Feb. 16. We have given special consideration to the trainers and feel these dates will be more suitable as there isn't any metropolitan racing on the Sunday and generally a Sunday session attracts a greater crowd," commented Peter Heagney, Melbourne manager.

The Inglis Championship is for 2-year-olds sold at the Classic or Premier Yearling Sales and has been scheduled for Feb. 5 at Flemington on the same day as the Lightning Stakes (Aust-I).

"Premier is now firmly cemented as the #3 sale in Australia and we anticipate very strong entries for 2005," said Heagney.
