Indiana Stallion El Angelo Dead
El Angelo, a grade II winner, died Feb. 8 because of complications from colic. The 12-year-old son of El Gran Senor stood at Chris Nolan's Lakeside Farm near Sellersburg. Ind.Nolan claimed El Angelo through trainer Dale Romans for $100,000 at Santa Anita in 1999. For Nolan, El Angelo placed in four stakes and earned some $160,000.El Angelo won three graded stakes earlier in his career, including the 1997 American Handicap (gr. IIT), and was grade I-placed. He retired with career totals of eight wins from 47 starts and earnings of $696,065. He was bred in Kentucky by Panama Foreign Traders & Skymarc Farm and produced from the Arctic Tern mare Angela Serra.Nolan initially stood El Angelo at Wafare Farm in Central Kentucky, but relocated him to Lakeside for the 2002 season. He was scheduled to stand this year for $3,500. His first foals are 2-year-olds.
