Ocean Silk Seeks to Halt San Dare Repeat in The Very One Handicap

The Trainer Rick Hiles is hoping that a repeat win by San Dare in Saturday's $100,000 The Very One Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream Park will be just what the doctor ordered to get the filly back on target. But she must first get past an improving Ocean Silk.

San Dare has gone off form since winning the 2003 The Very One Handicap by more than two lengths over Tweedside. That remains the most recent win for the Dare and Go mare, who was fourth last out in the Suwannee River Handicap (gr. III), which was switched from turf to the sloppy main track.
Corbelio Velasquez ride San Dare, who goes from post 12.

Pat Bryne trains Ocean Silk, a Dynaformer filly who raced in England at two and three, winning two of eight starts. Her best showing came in last year's Yorkshire Oaks (Eng-I), when she ran second to Islington, who went on to win the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT). Ocean Silk made her U.S. debut last October at Keeneland, running second in the Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes.

Pat Day, who was aboard at Keeneland, gets the call from post six.
Madeira Mist, who breaks from post nine with Edgar Prado up, will be the starting highweight at 116 pounds. The Irish-bred mare was third in the Jan. 3 Honey Fox Handicap (gr. IIIT), and last out went to Tampa where she won the Endeavour Stakes for trainer Christopher Clement.
