Gal O Gal is expected to join a very large field in Saturday's $100,000 The Very One Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream Park.
The Very One, going at 1 3/8-miles over the grass, is expected to draw a full field, and trainer Vinnie Blengs is looking forward to joining the fray.
"That's a distance that should really suit her," said Blengs in a release from Gulfstream Park. "It's perfect for what she wants. We want to send her as far as we can. She can run as far as she wants."
The 4-year-old filly has a pronounced come-from-behind running style that has left her a few lengths behind the winners of her last nine races -- all at shorter distances. She last worked Saturday, breezing a half-mile in :48 4/5. Her last race was a seventh-place finish in the Feb. 10 Endeavour Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, going 1 1/16 miles. In that effort she closed to within two lengths of the winner, Madeira Mist.
"She ran a good race and only got beat a few lengths to a horse that was a big favorite," Blengs said. "If she moves like that again, it's the three-eighths she'll have this time that's really intriguing."
