Three competitors from last year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I) will meet on television Sunday when TVG screens the New Orleans Handicap from the Fair Grounds. Post time for the gr. II, $500,000 event is scheduled for 5:20 p.m. EST.
The nine-furlong test for older horses has drawn an all-star cast, including Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide, Louisiana Derby, Haskell Invitational, and Toyota Blue Grass Stakes victor Peace Rules, and Illinois Derby, Travers Stakes, and Super Derby conqueror Ten Most Wanted.
Other probables for the New Orleans Handicap include Sir Cherokee, Seattle Fitz, Comic Truth, Spanish Empire, Saint Liam, and Country Be Gold.
The program will be a welcome relief for race fans who for much of the winter are unable to view stakes action from Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita due to the lack of a widely distributed television signal from those tracks.
