Trainer Chad Brown struck for a fifth consecutive win in the $100,000 Sweetest Chant (gr. IIIT) when Pricedtoperfection asserted herself late between rivals in the Jan. 30 race for 3-year-old fillies at Gulfstream Park. Watch Video
Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence's Pricedtoperfection, a daughter of Temple City  , finished the the  mile on turf in 1:36.98 under Joel Rosario. Spinamiss came up late to take second, three-quarters of a length back.
With the winner biding her time off the pace, Go Ro Ro Go was pressed through the early stages by Born to Be Winner and Little Cyclone before Born to Be Winner snatched the lead into the stretch but ultimately settled for third.
Rosario allowed Pricedtoperfection to edge closer entering the final turn and looked to be primed for victory, but was forced to tap on the brakes when the pacesetters began to tire. Rosario angled his mount to the rail, only to find that hole shut off. He switched back out and drove her between horses to get the win.
"We got bothered a little bit turning for home, I went to the inside and the horse in front of me came in; I went outside and he came out," Rosario said. "For a second, I thought I wouldn't get through, but she handled everything. She was fighting all the way. She was game today."
Brown said he had a few anxious moments when Pricedtoperfection launched her bid.
"When she had to steady there turning for home, maybe a couple times, I was concerned," he said. "But, I was happy with the path that Joel chose. We had planned that in the paddock, that if we could get a covered-up trip for most of the way, take it. Those are the risks in turf racing if you're going to stay covered. You might have some tired horses stopping on front of you. Thankfully he had a good enough horse under him to re-break again turning for home when he had a clear run. It looks like she made more than one run in the race, which is impressive."
Saturday's victory marked a stakes breakthrough for Pricedtoperfection, which followed a closing second last time out in the Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream. That effort followed a ninth-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT).
Brown previously won the Sweetest Chant with Consumer Credit, Ready to Act, Premier Steps, and Dayatthespa.
Pricedtoperfection, bred in Kentucky by Bobfeld Bloodstock and Joseph Creek from the Artax mare Glittering Tax, has a 2-1-1 record from five career starts. She is a full sister to grade I-placed stakes winner Miss Temple City.
Pricedtoperfection paid $11.40, $5, and $4.40, Spinamiss returned $10.40 and $6.80, and Born to Be Winner paid $21.
Favorite Sapphire Kittenwas fourth, followed by Ami's Mesa, Module, Conquest Bebop, Gliding By, Andreya's Reward, Little Cyclone, Hidden Treat, and Go Ro Ro Go to complete the order of finish in the 12-horse field.
