Crafty Shaw, Docent Expected for Saturday's Essex

Crafty Shaw, seeks second Essex Handicap victory.
The Essex Handicap (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park Saturday is expected to feature two previous winners of the 1 1/16-mile contest -- Crafty Shaw and Maysville Slew -- as well as 2002 Arkansas Derby (gr. II) winner Private Emblem, who is undefeated at Oaklawn Park.
Crafty Shaw, who won the 2002 Essex, exits a narrow victory Feb. 1 over Docent, who is also expected for this year's edition of the Essex. Owned by Charles Cella and trained by Peter Vestal, Crafty Shaw has won 14 of 35 career starts and earned $874,440.
Docent, a 6-year-old son of Waquoit, is a multiple stakes winner for trainer Tim Ritchey. He has won 15 of 29 career starts and earned $745,516.

Our Emblem won an allowance race at Oaklawn last year. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Private Emblem has won six of 21 career starts and earned $709,103.
