Everest Stables' homebred Island Fashion, who has two consecutive grade I victories to her credit, was scratched out of Monday's $250,000 Santa Maria Handicap (gr. I) at Santa Anita in favor of another grade I with a bigger purse.

"The owner (Jeffrey Nielsen) called me yesterday about noon," trainer Marcelo Polanco said Monday, "and said he would like to run in the next grade I in a bigger race for more money."

Polanco said the 4-year-old daughter of Petionville  --Danzigs Fashion (by A Native Danzig) could start in the $300,000 Santa Margarita Handicap (gr. I) at Santa Anita on March 14 and will be nominated to the $500,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I) on April 3 at Oaklawn Park.

The winner of five of 11 starts, with earnings of $1,262,970, Island Fashion won the La Brea and Santa Monica, both grade I, in her last two starts.
