No Shaking Shadow Cast in Silverbulletday

(from Fair Grounds report)
Shadow Cast rallied in the stretch to overtake Quick Temper and capture the $150,000 Silverbulletday Stakes (gr. II) for 3-year-old fillies Saturday at Fair Grounds.

Ridden by Robby Albarado, Shadow Cast settled behind the leaders in fourth position through much of the race. At the top of the stretch, Albarado eased the daughter of Smart Strike   into contention with a three-wide bid as the field bunched up and all six fillies lined across the track for the stretch run.

Quick Temper gained a short lead at the eighth pole as Shadow Cast closed ground on the outside. Albarado and Shadow Cast had the momentum late and prevailed over a game Quick Temper by three-quarters of a length, hitting the wire in 1:46 4/5 for the 1 1/16-mile event over the sloppy main track

"She was comfortable down the backside," said Albarado. "I felt like I had horse every point of the race. Today she developed as the best one."

Quick Temper was four lengths clear of Sister Swank in the field of six.

Shadow Cast, trained by Neil Howard for owner/breeder William Farish Jr., paid $7.80, $4.40 and $2.60. Quick Temper returned $5 and $3, while Sister Swank paid $2.40 to show.

Movant, the 2-1 favorite, finished fifth.

Quick Temper, who shipped in from Florida for trainer Niall O'Callaghan, ran gallantly in defeat after a moment of discomfort down the backside. The daughter of A.P. Indy shied from something, causing her to lose position.

"She was relaxed, and then she saw something and switched leads," said Melancon, motioning his arm to the right in reference to the 3-year-old swerving out. "She handled the track fine. I don't know what happened."

Shadow Cast won for the third time in just five starts, improving her career earnings to $144,005.

"It unfolded perfectly," said Howard, who also won this race in 1992 with Prospectors Delite. "She broke in stride and wasn't too far back, which I was a little concerned about (in) the slop. She ran well and she closed well."
