Miners Gamble Wins Kenny Noe; Hal's Hope Eighth

Led by Miners Gamble, longshots captured the top four spots Saturday in the $100,000 Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap at Calder Race Course. Miners Gamble, a 7-1 shot, closed with a rush on the inside to win by four lengths. In a three-horse photo for second, Alice's Notebook (23-1) finished a neck in front of Stormy Do (10-1). Rich Celebration (30-1) was a neck back in fourth.
Miners Gamble, ridden by Eduardo Nunez, ran seven furlongs in 1:22.86 and paid $17.40, $7.80 and $4.60. Alice's Notebook paid $20.00 and $9.80. Stormy Do paid $7.40 to show. The exacta returned $285.
Sea of Tranquility, the favorite, and Hal's Hope both closed at just over 2-1 and faded badly in the drive. Sea of Tranquility finished sixth, and Hal's Hope was next to last in a field of nine 3-year-olds and up.
In his most recent start, Miners Gamble rallied to win the $33,000 Spirited Boy Handicap, finishing a head in front of Stormy Do. Miners Gamble won for the fifth time in 12 starts this year. In all, the 4-year-old gelded son of Prospectors Gamble has won seven races in thirty starts. Trained by Dennis W. Ebert, Miners Gamble earned owner Alan Drey $60,000.
