(edited press release)
Fasig-Tipton will conduct its Kentucky July select yearling sale on Monday and Tuesday, July 19 and 20, two days earlier than its previously scheduled dates. The auction takes over the position on the auction calendar formerly held by Keeneland's July select yearling sale, which was canceled in 2003 and will not return in 2004.
"After weighing the options, we felt that the Monday/Tuesday schedule would be more convenient for consignors and buyers alike," said Fasig-Tipton president Walt Robertson. "It makes the weekend available for travel and inspection and it uses racing's traditional dark day for one of our two days of sales."
The sale is scheduled for Fasig-Tipton's Newtown Paddocks in Lexington.
Three colts prominent on this year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I) trail--graded stakes winners Fire Slam, Lion Heart and St Averil -- all were sold during the July auction's 2002 edition. Triple Crown Seattle Slew also was a graduate of the sale.
