Malabar Gold's first foal.
The first foal for Malabar Gold arrived Jan. 27 at Phil T. Owens' Houstondale Farm near Lexington. The chestnut colt, bred by Owens, is out of Time to Renew, a 14-year-old daughter of Time for a Change.
Malabar Gold, a 7-year-old son of Unbridled -- Stormy Spell, by Tsunami Slew, stands at Highclere near Lexington. His fee for 2004 is $7,500. A winner of six of 15 starts and $325,622, Malabar Gold won the San Simeon Stakes (gr. IIIT) at 6 1/2 furlongs and placed in the seven-furlong Jaipur (gr. IIIT) and Hollywood Turf Express (gr. IIIT) Handicaps. He was a $1-million sales yearling.
Time to Renew has a pair of winners from two foals to race. Out of the Raise a Native mare D'Arqueangel, Time to Renew is a half-sister to stakes winner Dreams to Reality and stakes-placed runner Alwathba.
