A daughter of Deputy Minister led the closing session of the two-day Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed sale at the auction company's Newtown Paddocks. Graham J. Beck's Gainesway Farm purchased the mare for $180,000 from the Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency consignment of 200 mares from the estate of the late John Franks.

The second session of broodmares grossed $2,393,000 with 235 horses selling for an average of $10,183. The median was $4,000. Forty-four horses failed to find new homes.

Overall the two-day auction grossed $4,713,100 with 394 horses selling for an average of $11,962. The median was $5,000. Eighty-one horses failed to find new homes.

"Any horse offered with a quality pedigree and conformation sold well," said Boyd Browning, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Fasig-Tipton. "It's a very bullish market right now and we are seeing new names on the results sheets, which is broadening the overall market."

Session two's sale topper, the unraced Scoutingaround, out of the grade I winning Fit to Fight mare Fit to Scout is a half-sister to stakes placed Back in Shape (by Wild Again). The stakes winning second dam of Scoutingground, Bee A Scout (by West Coast Scout) also produced stakes winner Scout Command and stakes placed Police Scout and Coasting Home.

Franks, who originally purchased Scoutingaround the for $130,000 at the 2001 Keeneland September yearling sale, bred her in partnership with John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm.

The second-highest price of the afternoon was paid by Jose Laudo De Camargo's Santa Escolastica who went to $100,000 to acquire grade II stakes winner Dance for Thee, a daughter of Sword Dancer out of the Taylor's Falls mare Tea for Thee. Dance for Thee sold in foal to Royal Anthem, who stands at Hopewell Farm for $10,000.

Annabel and William Murphy bred Dance for Thee in Florida. Dance For Thee won the grade II Rampart Handicap at Gulfstream Park while racing for Franks, who privately acquired her following her win in the 1998 Sugar's Image Handicap at Gulfstream Park.

Dance for Thee ended her racing career in 1998 with a lifetime record of 21-10-1-1. She earned $614,704.
