Sunland Park set a single day handle record Feb. 3, when more than $2 million was wagered at the New Mexico racetrack.

According to a release from the track, total handle for the day was $2,194,229, surpassing the former record of $1,742,535 set on Jan. 6. The 12-race program attracted a total wagering pool of $2,151,368 from on-track fans and over 600 simulcasting locations throughout North America and overseas.

The one day handle mark is believed to be the highest handle ever recorded in the history of New Mexico racing, the release stated.

"Everything came together with good field sizes and post times. Hopefully, we will continue these type of numbers on Tuesdays," Sunland Park director of racing operations Dustin Dix said.
